Steam into History
York No. 17
Thursday afternoon we will have the opportunity to ride the William H. Simpson #17, a faithful replica of the Civil War steam locomotive that carried Abraham Lincoln to deliver his now famous Gettysburg Address. These same tracks carried Lincoln’s funeral train two years later. You will experience history as you ride in our custom built coaches, pulled by a 1860’s replica steam locomotive.
The ride is a 2 1/2 hour ride on the Old Northern Central Railroad that went form Baltimore to York, Pennsylvania. Each coach will have a narrator to tell you about the train and the area. The train leaves New Freedom and passes through Glen Rock on its way to Hanover Junction and then returns.
A visit to the Birthplace of the American Railroad is not complete without a visit to the B & O Museum. Today many new additions have been added to the collection that covers the period back to the birth of the railroad in 1827. You will not want to miss this tour. Much has changed in the B & O Roundhouse were every December, the two host clubs set up their layouts for all to enjoy.
The bus leaves at 9:15 am and will return by 1:30 pm.
